In this little corner of the world I get lost in creativity; a craft project, an article or just in thought.

Hawaiian Party Theme - Cooler

Hawaiian Cooler Made from dollar store items

Whether you are going to a luau party or not this cooler will surely make any party more festive!

You will need: A cooler, a grass skirt, a straw skirt, a lei, green paper or
duct tape, and hot glue and glue gun.

If you use green paper, you will need to figure out how many inches is each side.

You can chose to cover bottom portion of cooler with green duct tape, in this case you don't have to measure anything.

Using green just makes cooler look nicer under the grass

From the bottom of the grass skirt cut off several pieces of the grass strand to desired length.

To figure out the the length you need, simply hold the grass next to the cooler so that the bottom of the grass is flush with the bottom of the cooler.

Here I cut the pieces to be about 1/2 the height of the cooler.

Glue grass strands on cooler trying to keep them as even as possible.

Continue putting green grass all around the cooler .

Cover the top edges of the grass strands with a 2-3 inch wide ribbon all around.

Next cut and glue the strands of straw all around the cooler. Glue top edges to top edge of cooler.

Take apart the Lei necklace.

Attach the individual flowers on separately. Glue the flowers on the cover of the cooler until the actual cover is no longer to be seen.

Place a few flowers scattered around the sides of the cooler.

I have not seen these in stores so you will have a pretty unique cooler to keep your drinks cold, should make one or two to add to your party decor!

How to make a butterfly using doilies

Anyone can experience the thrill of creating a butterfly with fabulous colors. Using doilies as the wings and a pipe cleaner for the body helps to keep this activity cost down to a minimum.
Topping a wrapped gift or having a pretty butterfly sticking out of a gift bag will surely bring on a smile!

An enjoyable Mother's Day

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Mother's Day.

As for me, it was pretty spectacular despite not physically having 2 of my sons sharing the day. One of those two sent me flowers and the other . . . Well doesn't care for me much.

Our oldest son is getting married in a few months. He and his fiancé sent these flowers -------

The colors are so vibrant I love them!

I was blessed with another basket of flowers that was accompanied with a pink photo album from another son ------

These are so bright and cheery!
I so much treasure having flowers in the house!

We went out to the mall to play one of my favorite games:

Pretty Lace Ring

The Perfect Ring for Girl's of All Ages!

Young girl's, teens, moms and seniors (just trying to stress the point of  "all  ages") would appreciate  this sweet feminine ring that consists of  off white lace that is adorned with matching faux pearls going around the entire ring.

This ring would be perfect for the little girl's who are making their 1st Communion, a   flower girl ,  teens, or a young adult who likes the look of denim and lace worn together.

Lacey rings would make a wonderful birthday or Mother's Day gift to specific Mom or Grandmother!

I love Faith Hill Perfumes by the way!

Summer Top with Handbag Made from Winter Shirt

The sleeveless top on the left was made from the hooded, long sleeved shirt on the right.

A unique little handbag was made from the actual hood on the shirt!

The more you get to know me, the more you will come to learn some things about me that people don't really know about me. For instance if I can avoid measuring the correct, conventional ways, I will.

For that reason alone I can never be called a perfectionist. Not that there's anything wrong with being one, in fact if I was one, I would be more successful at certain things in my life.

decide where to start cutting

fold in half
Instead of measuring I laid a  presently fitting tank top over the shirt which I want to revamp. While it's there I observe and may even mark lightly where to start cutting.

Folding the shirt in half helps to keep the cutting even like a mirror image.

Originally I thought the new top would have straps that were made from the shoulder area.

The more I looked at the cut off sleeves, the more I got to thinking that they would be perfect straps.

So, the green straps from the other set of pics were cut off and replaced by the plaid like sleeve material.

One sleeve made 2 straps. Vertically the sleeves were cut. Each half made a strap.

The shirt was made with 2 really nice buttons that were not that noticeable.

By removing that little triangle of fabric in the center of the "V" the little crystal buttons were able to be appreciated.

Before sewing the straps on, the edges on top of the shirt were turned under 1/4" and sewn for a small hem.

When the hood was removed from the shirt, the material under the tag in the left picture was the part of the shirt that was part of the upper back between where I had cut for the green straps (the first plan for straps).

The picture on the right is the hood folded in half.

The picture on left shows the bag upside down.

The roundness on top is the bottom of the bag.

The strip to the side of the bag is sewn  with a hem
to become the handle.

The fatter part of the bag on the bottom winds up to be the "Flap" that closes the bag.

The thin  strip still attached to the bag (still left pic) on bottom right of pic is cut off.

All edges are sewn for a finished look.
Handle ends are attached to the inside of the bag by sewing them on.
Part of sleeve is used as a pocket accent on the outside of bag as shown in picture on the right.

I apologized if I confused you in anyway!
For some reason I couldn't locate all the pictures showing each step.

Awesome gifts kids can make for Mother's Day

With Mothers Day right around the bend I can't help but look at all the links I see for tutorials to make a gift for Mom!

I have spotted so many that grabbed my attention, I want to make them all!

Did you know Hallmark has card contests all the time? Well while I was over on their site I also discovered that they have some really cute craft projects that kids can make to give as a Mother's Day gift!     You can find the flower crafts shown below there.

Aren't the above corsages and pins awesome?

What mother doesn't appreciate pictures? The bottle cap craft below is definitely a smile maker!

Find instructions here

On the same site this necklace caught my eye. It seems real simple yet looks so sweet! Great craft for a child to make.

Blossoming Button

Another fabulous gift the kids can make for Mom is a set of framed handprints.
With the handprints all using coordinating papers, it makes such a nice collection of wall art. Either use the link shown in the picture or go to modpodgerocks blog to see how you can make (I mean, the kids) can make their own!

For the Mom who is a chocoholic how about this awesome flower pot that is created using mini Hershey chocolates and a Mini Reese's Peanut Buttercup.

Well I am being summoned to help with homework! I will be back!
