In this little corner of the world I get lost in creativity; a craft project, an article or just in thought.

How To Make A Name Sign Using Wooden Letters For Any Room

WOOD LETTER NAME BOARD

This impressive name board can be made to accommodate any name and color theme you wish.
Although this is not a one, two, three "I'm done" type project, it is a very enjoyable process that is totally rewarded with the end result!

I had actually posted the name board in one of my 1st posts but never had the directions posted. Since I am in the process of making another one, I thought it would be fun to see someone else make one using a style of their own!

So please if you make one, show me, show me please!

The supplies needed:
wood letters
3 different types of paper patterns (coordinating)
(of course if you only want to use 2 patterns, or 5 patterns, I promise not to tell)
foam board, long enough to hold your letters
embellishments (added to letters and board itself)
pencil
all purpose glue
thread
big needle
border punch - optional
hooks or ribbon to hang

Choose your papers. They can be a mix of solids and patterns if you like.
Tear all the paper into strips before starting. It's okay if some are longer than others or fatter. There is no real wrong way to tear the paper.
Dip you paper into your bowl of glue. As you lift up the paper with one hand use the other hand to pinch the paper between two fingers so that as one hand pulls paper out of glue; the other hand is pushing off the excess glue right back into the bowl.

Wrap paper around the wood letter. Anyway, just pick a spot!

Continue that process until all the wood is covered up!

The letters need to dry thoroughly. If they are touched when they are "tacky" fingerprints will be left on the letter and it is not a nice look.

Once your letters are dry, situate them on the board where you want them to remain.

Lightly put pencil marks for top and bottom of the letters. Make dots for where the needle should come in and out of the board to secure the letters with thread.

Remove the letters. Using a big needle poke holes through the board where the dots have indicated.

Replace the letters and tightly secure the letters to the board using the needle and thread. Before using thread you can also use some hot glue on the back of the letters just before placing them back on the board, one by one.

You can see the thread on the b around the bar that separates the upper circle from the lower circle.
After all the letters are secured onto the board it is time to decorate the board itself.

Here the edges of the board were lined with strips of paper that were hit with a border punch before securing to the board.

Attach any additional embellishments to the board itself or even the letters to beautify your name board!

The last part is to glue some metal hooks on back for easy hanging. Using thick ribbon that is glued from the back on the corners would allow the board to hang nicely from the center of the ribbon.

I truly love and get so inspired by card challenges!

Every week the blog Inspired By puts on an awesome challenge!

The picture below is the inspiration to create your masterpiece.

I came up with this card which due to taking the picture with my web cam the words that were computer generated came out backwards.

Next to each of the 3d flowers is a word saying:  Sassy You

Where the words are - they represent the pillows in the picture.

I just happened to find a blog that is having a challenge for making something using at least 2 or 3 buttons, bingo, I am entering this card!

The name of the blog is: Clear It Out
I am happy to have found the blog and hope to join future challenges too, perhaps you'll join me?

Use Everyday Household Items to Make Special Days More Festive

This cute little flower pot (which was hand painted by my darling mom) has been with us for years!
The tissue paper covers the bottom of a Styrofoam ball which has about 50 lollipops stuck into it.
(Candy themes are always popular with kids and teens)

If only a plain pot is available then simply dress it up with a wide ribbon tied around it or use a thinner ribbon wrapped around like three separate times.

These ice cream dishes are a definite must in a home with ice cream lovers! The top of these dishes have a wavy border that I just adore.

Fill these babies with easy finger snacks like candy.

This black iron candle holder worked out perfectly to display the candy filled ice cream dishes!

Paper flowers on sticks were stuck into different things here and there like the center dish in the above picture.

A sweet decorative square cake plate was perfect to give the flower display a little bit of height. The simple design on the plate didn't take any attention away from the flowers that were in their own unique jars for display.

Three vases cleverly disguised the birthday gifts, well not totally, but enough.
Do this by wrapping the clothes (in this case) in tissue paper allowing some of the article to remain showing. Stick bottom portion into vase just enough to hold the item securely.

Don't be worried about using an item in non traditional ways. Try something different, if you really don't like it, try something else!

I would love to hear how you have used regular everyday items to decorate for a special occasion, tell me in your comments!
